Ngara Cooperative, TADB agree on revamping coffee production

Ngara Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited (NFCS-LTD) and the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TABD) said here they have held successful talks and have agreed on best ways of growing and marketing of coffee in Ngara District.
A statement issued here and quoted TADB Managing Director Japhet Justine says the two parties reviewed and were satisfied with the performance of the NFCS-LTD during the last three growing seasons and believed stable coffee production would be steadily restored.
“In 2018 the NFCS Limited received a soft loan and technical support from the TADB. As a result NFCS Limited collected 2,300 tons of coffee from 500 smallholder coffee growers. The two parties have been impressed by a good loan repayment record by the NFCS Limited. Therefore, the TADB will continue to support the cooperative union in days ahead,” the statement says.
According to the statement cooperative leaders told the meeting that their officers had difficulties in visiting farmers for lack of vehicles. The bank offered two motor cycles to alleviate the problem. The TADB would send experts to the cooperative teach growers appropriate coffee husbandry.
NFCS-LTD was founded in 1993. In 2012 the cooperative suspended services to cooperative members because it had many settled loans and it also suffered from many operational problems.
According to the statement, the TADB was now convinced the cooperative was on the right track and would continue to give the cooperative the support it needs.
